Regency Park Hotel

Like the other stuff, everything is very cheap in Thailand. Rishab's uncle booked a 3 star hotel for us in Bangkok.

When we first saw the place, we thought that maybe his uncle had misjudged us and thought of us as extremely rich people. The place was so classy and over the top, we were not used to such luxuries.

The best part was that it was only 500 Baht per person per day!!!

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room, which has also been known as Tropical Serenade, has entertained millions since the Sunshine Pavilion first opened its doors on October 1, 1971 in Magic Kingdom Park. In 1998, following substantial refurbishment, it re-launched as The Enchanted Tiki Room—Under New Management, with 2 famous birds—Iago from Disney's Aladdin and Zazu from Disney's The Lion King—taking control to spruce up the show.

Re-Imagined and Re-Opened in August 2011
Now, the "new management" has been let go and the future of the Adventureland landmark is in the wings and wit of José, Fritz, Michael and Pierre—four crooning parrot hosts who ushered in sophisticated Audio-Animatronics technology at Disneyland Park in 1963 at The Enchanted Tiki Room.

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room at Walt Disney World Resort pays tribute to the original Disneyland show, maintaining the original intent created by Walt Disney and his original team of Imagineers. At the same time, it features some modern technology—a state-of-the-art show-control system, remastered audio, and a new versatile and energy-efficient lighting system.

The Crystal Palace where Scott and Dominica had their dinner with Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger.

When my family came to WDW in 1987 we would eat an early breakfast here every day before heading off to ride the Magic Kingdom rides. We were staying at the Contemporary Resort which allowed us to enter the Magic Kingdom early to get breakfast and allowed us to enter Adventureland as soon as the gates opened instead of entering Main Street USA at that time giving us first crack at the best rides when no one was on them yet.

Taormina
Taormina (Sicilian: Taurmina, Greek: Ταυρομένιον - Tauromenion, Latin Tauromenium) is a comune and small town on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy, in the Province of Messina, about midway between Messina and Catania. Taormina has been a very popular tourist destination since the 19th century. It has popular beaches (accessible via an aerial tramway) on the Ionian sea, which is remarkably warm and has a high salt content. Taormina can be reached via highways (autostrade) from Messina from the north and Catania from the south.

Contemporary age
In the late 19th century Taormina gained further prominence as the place where Wilhelm von Gloeden worked most of his life as a photographer of predominantly male nudes. Also credited for making Taormina popular was Otto Geleng, best known in his hometown of Berlin for his fine paintings, which he composed and painted in Italy but exhibited in Germany. What distinguishes Geleng, however, is his choice to depict the more southern regions where he captured the spectacular views and light of Sicily. He often painted the area's Greek colonial ruins, including Taormina. Taormina's first important tourist was Johann Wolfgang Goethe who dedicated exalting pages to the city in his book entitled "Journey to Italy," but perhaps it was Geleng’s views that made its beauty talked about throughout Europe and turned the site into a famous tourist center. The artist arrived in Sicily at the age of 20 in search of new subjects for his paintings. On his way through Taormina he was so enamoured by the landscape that he decided to stop for part of the winter. Geleng began to paint everything that Taormina offered: ruins, sea, mountains, none of which were familiar to the rest of Europe. When his paintings were later exhibited in Berlin and Paris, many critics accused Geleng of having an ‘unbridled imagination’. At that, Geleng challenged them all to go to Taormina with him, promising that he would pay everyone's expenses if he were not telling the truth.

During the early 20th century the town became a colony of expatriate artists, writers, and intellectuals. D. H. Lawrence stayed here at the Fontana Vecchia from 1920 to 1922, and wrote a number of his poems, novels, short stories, and essays, and a travel book, Sea and Sardinia. Charles Webster Leadbeater, the theosophical author, found out that Taormina had the right magnetics fields for Jiddu Krishnamurti to develop his talents, so the young Krishnamurti dwelt here from time to time. Halldór Laxness, the Icelandic author, worked here on the first modern Icelandic novel, Vefarinn mikli frá Kasmír.

By this time Taormina had become "a polite synonym for Sodom" as Harold Acton described it. Later, however, after the Second World War Acton was visiting Taormina with Evelyn Waugh and, coming upon a board advertising “Ye Olde English Teas” he sighed and commented that Taormina 'was now quite as boring as Bournemouth'.

Archaeology
The present town of Taormina occupies the ancient site, on a lofty hill which forms the last projecting point of the mountain ridge that extends along the coast from Cape Pelorus to this point. The site of the old town is about 300 m above the sea, while a very steep and almost isolated rock, crowned by a Saracen castle, rises about 150 m higher: this is undoubtedly the site of the ancient Arx or citadel, the inaccessible position of which is repeatedly alluded to by ancient writers. Portions of the ancient walls may be traced at intervals all round the brow of the hill, the whole of the summit of which was evidently occupied by the ancient city. Numerous fragments of ancient buildings are scattered over its whole surface, including extensive reservoirs of water, sepulchres, tesselated pavements, etc., and the remains of a spacious edifice, commonly called a Naumachia, but the real destination of which it is difficult to determine.
The Teatro Greco ("Greek theatre").

But by far the most remarkable monument remaining at Taormina is the ancient theatre (the teatro greco, or "Greek theatre"), which is one of the most celebrated ruins in Sicily, on account both of its remarkable preservation and of the surpassing beauty of its situation. It is built for the most part of brick, and is therefore probably of Roman date, though the plan and arrangement are in accordance with those of Greek, rather than Roman, theatres; whence it is supposed that the present structure was rebuilt upon the foundations of an older theatre of the Greek period. With a diameter of 109 metres (after an expansion in the 2nd century), this theatre is the second largest of its kind in Sicily (after that of Syracuse); it is frequently used for operatic and theatrical performances and for concerts. The greater part of the original seats have disappeared, but the wall which surrounded the whole cavea is preserved, and the proscenium with the back wall of the scena and its appendages, of which only traces remain in most ancient theatres, are here preserved in singular integrity, and contribute much to the picturesque effect, as well as to the interest, of the ruin. From the fragments of architectural decorations still extant we learn that it was of the Corinthian order, and richly ornamented. Some portions of a temple are also visible, converted into the church of San Pancrazio, but the edifice is of small size.

Leaving for Paris!
vacation travel
Okay, packing up some gear for a 6 days vacation in Paris next week!! ;-)

We rented a beautiful apartment 5m walk to Eiffel tower. We're visiting most of the popular attractions that this beautiful city has to offer.. Montmartre, the Latin quarter, La Conciergerie, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, a boat tour of the seine... and of course bring our 5 y-o kid to Disneyland ;-)..

For the first time I'll be leaving my notebook at home but the owner has assured me that there's a laptop with internet connection in the apartment... good for late night emails, photo uploads and vacation planning while staying there...

I think I'll be shooting RAW+JPG so that I can post some (unprocessed) images without the need of a raw converter before I get back home.

The other part of the "Static Duo" standing in front of our mode of transportation, an Audi TT Cabrio, by a vineyard where some ot the finest wine in the world is produced.

"Tour de Europa 2008" - the heading for my summer vacation 2008 - took us to the City of Vosne-Romanée which is located on Route des Grands Crus in Burgundy (Bourgogne) France, not far from the city of Dijon.

Considering the notiarity of the area, it's surprisingly off the beaten track, and you're allowed to drive around on the tractor tracks/roads right next to the vineyards.

I posted this comment to Jaiku.

If this was the US there would be a Disneyland here.

Wine and culture goes hand in hand in this timeless place.

An Audi TT is close to the pinacle of technology. We nicknamed her "Ilse" due to the voice of the navigation computer. She was usually right, and reacted with a strict or strikingly silent (disapppointed?) attitude, if we disobeyed her commands.

Cool What Is An All Inclusive Resort images

A few nice what is an all inclusive resort images I found:

Our Last Sunrise
what is an all inclusive resort
I can’t say enough good things about the group of guys with whom I spent the last few days in Baja. Our host, Erwan, has a little Airstream on a cliff above a pristine beach, right next to some of the best wind surfing and kite boarding water on the Sea of Cortez. I had met Erwan once before at one of James and Ashley’s famous pizza parties up in Saint Francisville. But, only after I went on some rant about economics did Erwan recall that we had sat by the pizza oven and shared a few beers. What can I say? I guess I am most memorable when I am rambling about some subject that I probably have no business speaking on.

The tip of the Baja peninsula was socked in with the same cold front that had Dallas and the rest of the south in its teeth when we landed in San Jose de Cabo at around 10:30PM on Thursday. We rented two small cars to accommodate all of the kite boarding gear and then set out for a two hour drive, late-night drive through the Mexican desert. Only when the sun rose on our frosty sleeping bags the next morning did I get a full picture of what the fuss was about. The landscape and sea were stunning. The water varied from deep turquoise to the faintest blue-green. The saguaro needled desert ran straight down to the water, sometimes in dramatic cliffs and sometimes along the bed on dry arroyos. Erwan had found himself an acre or two of paradise. The area is unspoiled, largely owing to its isolation. A good, paved road had just been put in a few year back. So, the little bungalows and palapa toped cabanas there had been constructed by folks who truly wanted to be in that spot. One did not accidentally find themselves in La Ventana. A person had to make a point of seeking out this windy bay near the point where the Sea of Cortez flows into the Pacific.

Those that had found these beaches and waves just a few miles north of the Tropic of Cancer had come for the wind. Being a rather poor swimmer, I am not a kite boarder or wind surfer or much of one for water sports in general, but those who apparently know say the conditions around La Ventana are ideal. You can find a spotty internet connection, there are few roadside, fish taco stands and the occasional tiendita selling Pacifico beer in large, bomb-like brown bottles. But, this area is most certainly not geared toward the idle tourist. I could not even locate any postcards to send to the friends who are accustomed to my regular mailings. It just isn’t that sort of spot. And so much the better.

Down the road a bit, some enterprising soul has but in a high-end cabana hotel where the little outbuildings rent for around 0 a day but the folks you see flying along the water, attached to the lunatic combination of a parachute and a surfboard, are more likely to be living out of a camper or renting a bit of thatch for . The slow-growing saguaro cactus, a visual icon of the American southwest but now largely gone because of development, abound here. The salty flat between Los Barilles and La Ventana is a forest of these alien looking monoliths. Raptors and vultures rides the thermal winds cooked up by the combination of sand and sun. Laughing gulls and pelicans bob on the cresting waves. In short, its is about as un-spoiled an area as you can find that also provides running water. The throbbing clubs and all-inclusive resorts of Cabo san Lucas feel about a million miles away.

I could go on about how precious this spot seemed to me or about how much I enjoyed sharing coffee with Bob, Erwan and James as the sun rose, orange and purple, over these little fingers of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. But, I think you get the idea. I’ll just close by thanking Erwan for his hospitality and for putting it all together, Bob for his endlessly positive embrace of life and its questions and to James for introducing me to these fine folks and this lovely part of the world. It was a trip I won’t forget.

Check out more at my blog, Lemons and Beans, for lots of photos, recipes, travel writing and other ramblings. I appreciate any feedback but, please do not post graphic awards or invitations in your comments.

A banquet is a large meal or feast, complete with main courses and desserts. It usually serves a purpose, such as a charitable gathering, a ceremony, or a celebration, often preceded or followed by speeches in honor of someone. Banquets have been used as a formal occasion for thousands of years. Royalty and higher classes have frequently thrown banquets for special events, such as birthdays, weddings, betrothals, and holidays. Some banquets are used to signing a treaty or agreements of some sort.
